The formula accounts for the fact that alcohol distributes differently in the body depending on gender (the r factor), and that the body breaks down alcohol at a fairly steady rate of around 0.15 ‰ per hour. The result is only a mathematical estimate — actual BAC is also affected by stomach contents, drinking pace and individual differences in metabolism.

Norway's legal driving limit is 0.2 ‰, among the strictest in the world. Since this calculator only gives an estimate, you should never drive after drinking alcohol, no matter what the calculation shows.
One standard drink corresponds to roughly 12 grams of pure alcohol — for example a bottle of beer (33 cl, 4.5 %), a glass of wine (12 cl, 12 %) or a shot of spirits (4 cl).
