Brick Calculator
Work out how many bricks you need for a wall, based on area, standard consumption per square meter and waste.
Number of bricks

Area
16.0 m²
Without waste

How to use the brick calculator
- Enter the wall length and wall height of the wall.
- Enter how many bricks go per square meter — a standard brick with a normal joint gives roughly 60 bricks per m².
- Enter a waste percentage for cutting and breakage.
How brick quantity is calculated
The calculator multiplies the area by the consumption per square meter, and adds waste:
Number of bricks = Area × Bricks per m² × (1 + Waste ÷ 100)
Consumption per square meter depends on brick size and joint thickness — a standard brick (roughly 228 × 108 × 62 mm) with a 10 mm joint gives about 60 bricks per m² for a single-leaf wall.
Note: Other brick sizes or joint thicknesses give different consumption per m². Check the manufacturer's recommendation for the exact brick you're planning to use.
Frequently asked questions
How many bricks go per square meter?
For a standard brick with a normal joint (10 mm), you typically figure around 60 bricks per m² for a single-leaf (half-brick) wall. Thicker walls or other formats give different figures.
Should I buy bricks from the same production batch?
Yes, bricks can vary somewhat in color between production batches. It's a good idea to buy a bit extra from the same batch in case you need more later in the project.
