What Kalkulo is

Kalkulo is a collection of free calculators and utility tools. The service is run by Erik Sandvik as a private individual — see about for who is behind it and how the content is quality-checked. No account is required, and there is no charge for use.

Guidance, not advice

All calculations on Kalkulo are intended as guidance and general information. They do not constitute professional advice in finance, law, tax, construction, medicine or any other field, and they are not tailored to your particular circumstances.

This applies especially to calculators built on official rates and regulations — tax, welfare benefits, duties, lending rules — and to those covering health topics. Such pages state which source a rate comes from and when it was last verified, but a calculation here is not a decision, an offer or a professional assessment. Before acting on anything with real consequences, verify the figures with the authority, lender or professional actually responsible for your case.

Note also that many of the rule-based calculators model Norwegian rules specifically, and are named accordingly. Where a page describes a rate or a legal threshold, assume it is Norwegian unless the page states otherwise.

Limitation of liability

The content is provided «as is». Real effort goes into sourcing rates from primary sources, documenting the formulas on each page and covering the calculations with automated tests — but no guarantee is given that everything is correct, complete or current at all times. Regulations and rates change, and a page can lag behind a change.

Use of the service is at your own risk. Kalkulo accepts no liability for loss, cost or other consequences arising from decisions made on the basis of a calculation here. If you find an error, I would genuinely appreciate hearing about it via the contact address — errors in calculations take priority over all other work on the site.

Your use of the service

You may use the calculators freely for both personal and commercial purposes. You may not attempt to disrupt the operation of the service, carry out automated bulk requests that place an unreasonable load on it, or give the impression that Kalkulo stands behind content or assessments that did not originate here.

Embedding on your own site

Most of the calculators can be embedded free of charge on your own website using an iframe — see the overview of embeddable calculators. You do not need to ask permission first. Two conditions apply to embedding: the calculator must be displayed as it is, without removing source references or altering the calculation, and it must not be presented as your own tool.

Embedded calculators load directly from kalkulo.app, so they update automatically when a rate or formula is corrected. That also means an embedded calculator may change or be discontinued without notice, and the service does not guarantee uninterrupted availability for embedded use.

Copyright

The text, explanations, design and code on Kalkulo are protected by copyright. The mathematical formulas and the official rates themselves are not — they are publicly available facts, and you are free to use them. What you may not do is copy the written explanations or the pages as a whole to another website.

Privacy and advertising

Calculations run in your browser, and the values you enter are not sent to any server. The site is funded by advertising and uses anonymous visitor statistics. How data is handled in detail, including what the ad provider loads, is described on the privacy page.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated, for instance if the service changes or new features are added. The date at the top of the page shows when they were last changed, and it will be updated accordingly for any material change.
