How to use the disability benefit calculator

  1. Enter your average pensionable income for the 3 best of the last 5 years before disability.
  2. Choose your marital status and whether you qualify as young-disabled (disability arising before age 26, with at least 40 % work capacity originally).
  3. The calculator shows 66 % of the base, capped at 6G — or the minimum rate, if that's higher.

How disability benefit is calculated

Disability benefit = max(66 % × base, minimum rate)
Base = average income (3 best of 5 years), capped at 6G

Disability benefit is normally calculated as 66 % of the average of your pensionable income for the three best of the five years before you became disabled, capped at 6 times the base amount (6G). If you have low or no prior income, you still receive a minimum rate that depends on whether you live alone or with a spouse/partner, and whether you're young-disabled.

Limitation: This is a simplified calculation. A disability degree below 100 %, work income alongside the benefit, and child supplements affect the actual payout. Check nav.no for a complete estimate. This calculator applies to Norway's National Insurance scheme only.

Frequently asked questions

What's the minimum rate for disability benefit?

From May 1, 2026, the minimum rate is 318,023 kr for those living with a spouse/partner/cohabitant (2.329G), and 345,332 kr for singles (2.529G). Young-disabled recipients have higher minimum rates: 369,911 kr (cohabiting) and 404,048 kr (single).

What does "young-disabled" mean?

You can qualify for young-disabled status if you became at least 50 % disabled before turning 26 due to a serious and permanent illness, injury or impairment that's clearly documented. Young-disabled recipients get a higher minimum rate than others with low or no prior income.

How does part-time work affect disability benefit?

You can earn up to a tax-free income threshold (0.4G) alongside disability benefit without the benefit being reduced. Income beyond this is gradually deducted against your disability degree. This calculator shows disability benefit at a 100 % disability degree with no other income.
