How the charging cost is calculated

Cost per 100 km = consumption (kWh/100 km) × electricity price
Cost per month = cost per km × driving distance

The calculator uses today's average spot price for your Norwegian price zone, fetched directly from hvakosterstrommen.no's open API. If you mostly charge at home on a fixed-price plan or your own solar setup, enter your own price instead.

Note: this is a simplified calculation based on average consumption. Charging losses, cold weather and fast-charging on trips normally give somewhat higher actual consumption than WLTP/manufacturer figures.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the electricity price different from what I actually pay?

The calculator shows today's average spot price (the power price itself), not grid rent, the supplier's markup, or any electricity subsidy. See the electricity cost calculator for a more complete comparison of electricity costs.

What's typical consumption for an EV?

Most EVs use between 15 and 20 kWh per 100 km under normal driving, but this varies with car model, speed, weather and driving style. Winter months often bring 20-30 % higher consumption than summer.

How much cheaper is it to charge at home than at a fast charger?

Home charging at spot price is normally clearly the cheapest option. Fast chargers along the road often cost 2-4 times as much per kWh as the average spot price — this calculator shows the home-charging cost, not fast-charger prices.
