Text to Speech

Type or paste text, choose a voice and speed, and have it read aloud — using your browser's own speech synthesis.

Sorry, your browser doesn't support speech synthesis (Web Speech API).

How to use text to speech

  1. Type or paste the text you want read aloud.
  2. Choose a voice (availability depends on which voices your browser/operating system has installed) and reading speed.
  3. Press "Read aloud" to start, or "Stop" to cancel.

How does it work?

This tool only offers voices the browser marks as local (localService). Remote voices are excluded. If no local voice is available, reading is disabled instead of falling back to a cloud service.

Which voices are available varies by device and operating system — some offer many languages and accents, others fewer. If the voice list is empty, it can help to check that your browser is up to date or that your operating system has speech voices installed.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to a server for the speech?

The tool does not send your text to an external speech service. It checks that the selected voice is still marked local immediately before reading. Browser and operating-system behaviour is outside our control.

Why don't I see many voice options?

Which voices are available is determined by your browser and operating system, not by this tool. Try a different browser, or check whether your device has more speech voices installed in its system settings.

Why doesn't it work at all?

Some older browsers don't support the Web Speech API. Try an up-to-date version of Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox.
