Bill Split Calculator
Calculate how much each person should pay when splitting a bill evenly — or flip it: how large a bill can be if everyone pays a set amount.
How to use the bill split calculator
- Enter the total amount on the bill.
- Enter how many people the bill should be split between.
- Optionally add a service or tip percentage — the calculator shows what each person should pay.
How the amount is calculated
The calculator first adds any tip to the total amount, then splits the sum evenly among the number of people:
Splitting $124 among 4 people with no tip comes to $124 ÷ 4 = $31 each.
Know instead what each person should pay — say you've agreed on a set amount per head — and the "How large can the bill be?" tab flips the math to show the maximum total the bill can come to.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this to split a bill unevenly?
This calculator always splits evenly across the number of people. If you ordered different amounts, you'll need to add each person's share manually, or subtract what should be paid individually before splitting the rest.
How much should I tip?
Tipping customs vary a lot by country — check what's typical where you are. A common approach almost everywhere is to round up or add a percentage on top of the bill if you're happy with the service.
How do I find the max bill size for a fixed amount per person?
Use the "How large can the bill be?" tab — enter the desired amount per person, the number of people, and any tip, and the calculator works out how large the total bill can be.
