Days Between Dates Calculator
Calculate how many days, weeks and workdays there are between two dates — or the other way around: what date you get by adding or subtracting a number of days.
How to use the days-between-dates calculator
- Choose the start date.
- Choose the end date.
- The calculator automatically shows the number of days, weeks and workdays (Monday–Friday) between the dates.
How the days are calculated
The calculator subtracts the from-date from the to-date, and counts the number of whole days between them:
Workdays are counted by going through each day in the period and excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Note that the calculator does not account for public holidays, which vary from year to year.
The "Date + number of days" tab flips the calculation around: you enter a start date and a number of days (a negative number goes back in time), and the calculator works out the resulting date.
Are you counting the days, or the gaps between them?
From Monday to Wednesday is two days if you count the gaps, and three if you count the days themselves. Both answers are correct — they just answer different questions. If you want to know how much time passes, you count the gaps. If you want to know how many days something lasts, such as a hotel stay or a period of sick leave, you generally count both endpoints.
This is the source of nearly every disagreement about date calculations, and of classic errors with holiday entitlement and deadlines. Legal deadlines are often counted from the day after the triggering event, so that the day of the event itself does not count. Always check which of the two counting conventions applies to the particular deadline you are dealing with.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator count the start and end date?
The calculator shows the number of whole days between the two dates (the difference). If you want to count calendar days including both dates, add one day to the result.
Why doesn't it account for public holidays?
Public holidays vary by country and some follow movable dates (like Easter), changing from year to year. This calculator only excludes fixed Saturdays and Sundays for a general workday estimate.
How do I find the date that's X days from now?
Use the "Date + number of days" tab. Enter the start date and the number of days — use a negative number to go back in time. The calculator works out the resulting date.
