How to use the overtime pay calculator

  1. Enter your hourly rate.
  2. Enter how many overtime hours you worked.
  3. Choose the correct overtime supplement — 50 % is most common, while 100 % often applies to Sundays, public holidays and night work.

How overtime pay is calculated

The calculator adds the overtime supplement on top of the ordinary hourly rate for those hours:

Overtime pay = Hourly rate × Number of hours × (1 + Supplement ÷ 100)

If you work 8 overtime hours at an hourly rate of 280 kr with a 50 % supplement, you get 280 × 8 × 1.5 = 3,360 kr total for those hours.

Note: Overtime supplement rules can vary between collective agreements and employment contracts. Norway's Working Environment Act requires at least a 40 % supplement, but many agreements give a higher rate. Check your own agreement for the correct rate — this calculator applies to Norwegian employment law only.
