Password Generator

Generate a secure, random password — uses the browser's cryptographically secure randomness function (Web Crypto API), the same type used for security keys.

How to use the password generator

  1. Choose the desired length with the slider.
  2. Choose which character types the password should contain.
  3. A new password is generated automatically — press "Generate new password" to draw a new one, or "Copy password" to put it on your clipboard.

Why is this safe to use?

The password is generated with the browser's built-in crypto.getRandomValues() (Web Crypto API) — a cryptographically secure source of randomness, unlike the plain Math.random() function many simpler password generators use. This is the same type of randomness used to generate cryptographic keys.

The password is generated and shown only in your own browser — it's never sent to any server, and we don't store it anywhere.

Note: the strength rating is based on the password's entropy (length × number of possible characters) — a measure of how many attempts a brute-force attacker needs on average. It doesn't say anything about whether the password has been leaked in a previous data breach; consider also using a service like Have I Been Pwned, and never reuse the same password across multiple services.

Frequently asked questions

Do you store the password I generate?

No. The password is generated and shown only locally in your browser — it's never sent to any server, and disappears when you reload the page.

How long should a password be?

Most security recommendations today lean toward at least 12–16 characters, longer still for important accounts (email, banking, password manager). Preferably use a password manager so you don't have to remember long, unique passwords for every service yourself.

What does "avoid ambiguous characters" mean?

Removes characters that are easily confused when handwritten or on screen, like uppercase L (l) and the number 1, or uppercase O and the number 0. Useful if the password needs to be written down or read aloud, but makes the password marginally weaker since the character set becomes smaller.
