How furlough is calculated
Benefit after the wage obligation = same calculation as the ordinary unemployment benefit calculator (62.4% of the base, up to 6G)
When you're furloughed, your employer has a wage obligation of 15 working days (Monday-Friday) from the first day of the furlough — this is called "arbeidsgiverperiode 1." If you're furloughed from a reduced position (say, 50%), it takes correspondingly more calendar days to reach the 15 "full" working days. After the wage obligation ends, you may be entitled to unemployment benefit (dagpenger) from NAV, calculated exactly the same way as ordinary unemployment benefit.
As a general rule you can be furloughed for up to 26 weeks within an 18-month period, after which your employer must either bring you back to work or issue a formal termination.

Frequently asked questions
Do I get paid during the wage obligation period?
Yes, your employer is required to pay your ordinary wage for the 15 working days the wage obligation lasts. Only after this can you apply for unemployment benefit from NAV.
How long can I be furloughed?
As a general rule, up to 26 weeks (about 6 months) within an 18-month period. If the furlough runs longer than this, your employer must either bring you back to ordinary work or proceed with a formal termination.
Is furlough benefit the same as ordinary unemployment benefit?
Yes, the payment itself is calculated exactly the same way as ordinary unemployment benefit (62.4% of the benefit base, up to 6G). What's specific to furlough is the 15-working-day wage obligation period before the benefit starts, and that you remain formally employed by your employer while receiving it.
